William Favre Slater, III

William "Bill" Slater is a senior IT project manager, program manager, senior
IT consultant, professor and author, with more than three decades of IT
experience and he is the President and CEO of Slater Technologies, Inc. Recently he has been involved in projects
related to Risk Management Applications, teaching Project Management classes,
providing Subject Matter Expert services in ITIL for a large U.S. Air Force
Contract, and creating Internship opportunities with his company for 20 bright,
talented students from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Prior to these activities, he worked as an
Information Security Engineer at a Fintech company for six months where he
established their cybersecurity management program practices, performed
penetration testing and vulnerability management, and played a key role in
helping his client successfully pass their first SOC2 audit. Prior to that he was a global cybersecurity manager,
had various leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and
in 2008 was also the first Data Center Manager for the gigantic Microsoft
Chicago Cloud Data Center located near O'Hare International Airport. He has worked in various industries
delivering projects in security, application development and conversion,
infrastructure, and IT service management. In his first job out of college, as a young
U.S. Air Force computer systems staff officer, he supported the automated command
control software for Strategic Air Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
Today, Bill is also an adjunct professor at the Illinois
Institute of Technology, specializing in the areas of data center operations,
data center architecture, data warehousing and information technology hardware
and software. He also develops and teaches
cybersecurity classes at Triton College, in River Grove, Illinois. Bill has earned three graduate degrees and
a bachelor degree: an M.S. in Cybersecurity from Bellevue University in
Bellevue, Nebraska, an M.B.A. and M.S. from the University of
Phoenix, and a B.S. in Engineering Technology (major was Computer Systems
Technology) from the University of Memphis.
Bill holds 80 professional certifications and is excited to have
directly assisted many younger professionals achieve several of the same
certifications he has achieved. Bill is
also an internationally published author who has written scores of articles and
presentations on many topics, especially in the area of cybersecurity
management. He also conducts research,
and prepares and delivers technical topic presentations in cybersecurity
management at three local conferences each year since 2012.
Bill is also a black
belt in Kodokan Judo and a certified Judo Instructor. He teaches Judo and Self-Defense to students
at IIT.
Bill has been happily
married to his best friend and soul mate, Ms. Joanna Roguska since December
2000. She is a naturalized U.S.
citizen, who is also a native of Warsaw, Poland. During the day, Joanna is professional web
developer. In her spare time, she is a
dancer and a folk musician who plays mountain dulcimer and banjo. They make their home amid thousands of books
on the near northwest side of Chicago in Wicker Park. Bill and Joanna have traveled to Warsaw,
Poland every Christmas Holiday since 2000 to spend the Holidays with Joanna's
Family. Bill is especially grateful to
his lovely wife, her wonderful Family, and for his successful career in
Information Technology and Teaching.
